The Olive Groves The Mill is set in 25 acres of terraced olive groves. The Barranc de Lloret forms the boundary to the East and South and the rest of the property is well shielded from its neighbours and the weather by over 930 mature olive trees as well as a number of large carob trees and some almonds. Numerous paths wind between the olives leading to isolated picnic and sunbathing spots. The carob trees' dense canopies offer shady areas to sleep off a midday meal. The groves have not been farmed for the last 7 years, so the trees are unpruned and grasses and herbs have covered the ground underneath them lending the groves an orchard like appearance. Wild thyme and rosemary are growing in profusion and offer up wonderful scents when crushed underfoot. Near the Barranc, gorse, cacti and aloes, as well as many other succulents, can be found. Beehives are kept near the Barranc on the far side of the road. They have to be well built and staked down so that the local wild boar cannot overturn them and feast on the honey. As you walk around the groves you will see the areas where the boar have rooted around looking for tasty snacks. If you have seen a rabbit's diggings, think of something 20 times the size. Once the Mill has been rebuilt, the olive groves will be brought under some control as they could provide up to 25,000 kilos of olives per year which would produce around 5,000 litres of high quality olive oil.
